Luz & Derek’s Beautiful Florida Backyard Wedding

There are some couples you simply never forget. When we first met Luz and her family at a bridal show about a year prior, we knew there was something special about them. Then a few weeks later, when they reached out to book Penny, we could feel the excitement building as they shared their vision for their elegant backyard wedding. Luz’s mom was especially excited about having Penny, our vintage VW photo booth bus, become part of such an important family celebration. And, from that very first conversation, we couldn’t wait for their wedding day. Then, finally… many months later, that day had finally arrived.

Our First Backyard Wedding With Penny

One of the things we love most about our photo booth bus business is that every wedding is different. This wedding would be our very first at-home wedding, and we were so curious about everything. Where would the ceremony be? How would guests move around the property? Where would Penny be parked? Would there be enough space?

As soon as we arrived, every question disappeared. Luz’s dad was waiting for us with the perfect plan already in place. He guided us to the exact spot where Penny needed to be, which made the setup incredibly easy. We could immediately tell that this family had thoughtfully planned every detail of the day. This backyard wedding was going to be absolutely perfect!

An Outdoor Wedding Full Of Beautiful Details

One of the first things that greeted us when we arrived was their sweet pup… dressed as a bride. She was adorable, and quite determined to let us know that we were entering her territory! We couldn’t stop laughing because she was just so cute!!!

Then we noticed their swimming pool. Floating across the water were clear umbrellas filled with lovely floral arrangements. It was such a creative detail that brought their home into the aesthetic of their wedding.

Beyond the pool sat a beautiful white reception tent that was already set up and ready to receive their wedding guests. Let’s not forget the dance floor either, which was right next to the reception tent. What tied everything together was the huge canopy of large oak trees overhead. Everything was so lovely, especially once the sun went down.

It was elegant, peaceful, and the perfect setting for their outdoor, backyard wedding.

Watching The Ceremony From The Best Seat In The House

While everyone gathered for the ceremony, we found ourselves sitting inside Penny with one of the best views. We watched as Luz stepped outside on their back porch, with her father, and made her way toward Derek, the love of her life. She was radiant, as she walked right by us. We smiled at her. I remember thinking… “this is the best job!”.

The ceremony was filled with heartfelt family moments, including little “Ring Security” attendants and the youngest members of the wedding party riding down the aisle in a ribbon-filled wagon. It was impossible not to smile.

During dinner, guests wandered over to Penny to say hello, and almost immediately, the VW stories began: “I used to own one just like this.” “My parents had one when I was growing up.” “I learned to drive in a Volkswagen Bus.” These conversations happen at almost every wedding, and they’re always some of our favorite memories from wedding days. We love making connections with people on a wedding day.

Penny isn’t just a photo booth… she’s a conversation starter, and she helps complete strangers connect before they ever even step inside to take their pictures.

A Photo Booth Bus That Everyone Loved

As soon as the ceremony was over and dinner wrapped up, the party truly began. The dance floor stayed packed while guests bounced back and forth between dancing and climbing inside Penny for photos. Friends, family, college roommates, cousins… everyone wanted a turn!

One of our favorite details was something the Diaz family planned especially for their guests. Instead of simply handing everyone a photo strip, they provided keepsake photo strip frames so that the guests could display their pictures in their own homes. What a thoughtful way to help family and friends remember this joyful celebration… always.

One of the greatest gifts of this wedding was being welcomed to the family’s home. Backyard weddings feel so incredibly personal, and we will never take that invitation for granted.
